Nehemiah – Time to Rebuild

Nehemiah – Time to Rebuild

Sunday I taught the story of Nehemiah. We experienced the manifest presence of God. The presence of sweet and weighty. Ministry time was impactful. God touched those who came forward. Some he was filling with his love and presence some he was touching places in their heart. We love the presence. Come Holy Spirit. Press in and ask for More!

Nehemiah was a man committed to his job and suddenly when he heard the news of the destruction of Jerusalem he was moved with compassion. He writes in Nehemiah 1:4 So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

Compassion gripped his heart and he fasted and prayed. Compassion is when the love of the Father grips your heart and wrenches your insides for the plight of others. It’s agape love manifest in the flesh. Nehemiah was positioned by God in his secular job to bring God’s purposes in the earth. Much like Esther before him, he spoke up before the High King of the Persian Empire and God moved on the king’s heart to give Nehemiah favor.

Right now some are being positioned by God to be used by Him when they are moved on by His compassion. We all need to position themselves before God to be receive His Glory that is being poured out. Position is a big word right now. Spiritually are you positioned to receive and hear from heaven? What changes do you need to make to position yourself before God?”

It is fascinating how Gods people were used and had extreme favor during their captivity. The Babylonians, then the Persians and in both empires, God’s people prospered. The people of Israel grew in influence and strength in a foreign land that served foreign God’s. They did not spend all their time bashing those they did not agree with on social media. They lived, married, and worked among pagans and gained their favor because of their integrity. The listened to the prophet Jeremiah’s word’s as they entered into captivity:

Jeremiah 29:4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who were carried away captive, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters—that you may be increased there, and not diminished. And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.

10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.

Nehemiah heard about the captives return after 70 years and He saw captives return under Ezra and now suddenly in his comfort in the palace God moved on him to seek the restoration of Jerusalem. To often people do not want to take the Lord’s advice on how to live. We want to live as we chose and claim the blessing of Jeremiah 29:11 without living verses 5-7.

Nehemiah was used by God to rebuild the walls and restore the gates of Jerusalem. He did this by faith. He stood firm against verbal attacks from the enemies of Israel. He did not waiver when they threatened him. He did not stop his work and go down to meet hold extensive talks with his enemies on the plains of Ono. He did not stop doing the work of God because of false news his enemies spread.  He did not stop the work of God because of terrorism threats from his enemies.

In all these plots and more Nehemiah stayed faithful through prayer and diligence. He was active in his work he did not rest until he had accomplished that which God had sent him to accomplish. He was engaged in spiritual warfare from the beginning to end. He remained faithful.

Take time to study the lessons of Nehemiah they speak directly to our day. We see false news, terrorism, and distractions from the work of God all around us. Take the same steps as Nehemiah, stay focused, pray and be diligent.

Rebuild the walls of your life. Rebuild the gates to your soul. Where the enemy has come in and brought destruction. Pray and rebuild. Where the enemy has broken down your gates. Pray and rebuild. This is a season of restoration. Go back and do the things you did before when you were on fire for God and you will see He will “Light The Fire Again“.

Father, I ask that you would move on our hearts with your love. Send Your rain Lord. Saturate our hearts with your love. Show us Your glory. Teach us to stay connected and engaged with heaven. I ask for the spirit of wisdom and revelation knowledge of you. Open the eyes of our heart that we may see the hope of your calling and that indescribable great power that is for us who believe. Amen.
